[Shenzhen] More police sent to patrol communities

Latest Updated by 2006-04-03 11:55:28

Shenzhen's police department has deployed more than half its personnel to patrol the city's streets and communities as part of a reform implemented Saturday.

Before the reform took place, the city's police were divided into different squads, with only a small number of them patrolling the streets. This has resulted in low effectiveness in combating crimes and responding to reports from residents.

The reform has reinforced frontline police deployment by combining the community squads, social security squads and patrol squads. All the city's 115 police stations completed the shakeup Saturday, which has enabled policemen to respond more quickly.

The number of policemen patrolling the Huaqiangbei shopping area increased from about 20 to 35 after the reform. Only 80 complaints were filed Saturday, as compared to an average of more than 100 each day before the reform, the Yuanling Police Station said.

This marked another bold attempt by the police to make the city a safer place after residents complained of a high incidence of crimes, especially robbery and burglary, amid a rapid growth of migrant population.

The police announced Friday that they had busted 63 criminal gangs in a month since a citywide campaign targeting pickpockets and robbers was launched Feb. 27.

More than half of the gangs were rounded up when trying to commit crimes on buses and at bus stations, while the others were caught in commercial areas and parks. Some 670 suspects were arrested with stolen goods worth 200,000 yuan (US$25,000) confiscated, according to Qian Wei, a police spokesman.

"Shortly after the Chinese New Year, stealing and robbery cases soared in Shenzhen. So the police launched this two-month campaign. Now the situation has been much improved," said Qian.

Most of the criminal gangs were well organized and had set up complete networks of theft, robbery and selling ill-gotten goods. Many had account books recording the sales, which provided evidence for their crimes.

"Fourteen public transport companies in Shenzhen have organized special teams targeting pickpockets. These teams were trained by the police and cooperate with policemen in keeping public order. Such forces might be the first of its kind in China and have set up an example for pickpocket crackdown," he said.

He also said that the police are in the process of installing digital cameras on buses. By the end of June, 8,500 buses in the city will be equipped with cameras, which will help reduce crimes onboard buses.

 Another Victim

Latest Updated by 2006-11-25

Hong Kong resident, Ms Victim reported lost of wallet in Tung Mun of Shengzhen last Sat afternoon while she was shopping with her friend. According to Ms Victim, she didn't even recall when the lost occur, neither location and any suspects. The lost items were namely, HKID, "Back-to-China" card, several credit cards, several hundred dollars. Among those, the most valuable items were 4 priceless photos and a lovely wallet which were newly purchased.

"The worst thing is - I got stuck in Shenzhen for TWO days!!! The China custom don't allow me back to HK no matter how hard I tried to persuade, even with HK SAR passport to prove my identity of HK resident. I have to wait until Monday afternoon for the temperary VISA - which is totally nonsense!! Even foreigner can apply instant two-way VISA at $150 in 5 min, why a HK resident have to pay $200 for ONE-way VISA and wait for 2 days?!" Ms Victim said with anger.

China Economist comments this is absolutely normal for China custom to do so. Since China custom has to lower their efficiency and productivity to net off the extra GDP growth by pickpockets. Or She will be challenged by other countries for the tremendous GDP growth.

Busy but ...

Really want to write something everyday, even few sentences. However, I were just too tired and busy to do so.  Busy with work, with life and others... Maybe it's time for me to streamline something.

I didn't stop reading, I keep reading the "Purpose Driven Life" a chapter everyday. Here's something I'd like to share with my friends:

Day 2
You are not an Accident - your parents may not have planned you, but God did. God planned every single details for you, your race, your hair, your skin,  and every other feature. He custom-made your body just the way he wanted it. He also determined the natural talents and your personality.

Well, hold on. Why didn't he make me prettier and smarter? I was always thinking to have a plastic surgery. Most of you know I have this idea, I am not 100% kidding. At least 10% considerating seriously! After reading this chapter, the willingness go down to 5%! hahaha..

Day 3
What drives your life? - Many people are driven by
(1) guilt, they allow they past to control their future
(2) resentment and anger. They hold on to hurts and never get over them
(3) fear
(4) materialism
(5) need for approval. They allows expections of others to take over their lives

True. I have 2 out of 5. Am learning walking out of it.

That's all for today. Share more next time.

The Purpose Driven Life

This book is #1 New York Times Bestseller and 20 million sold worldwide.  This was written by Rick Warren. (Well, I don't know who he is)

"This is a guide to a 40-day spiritual journey that will enable you to discover the answer to life's most important question: What on earth am I here for?" Woow, over 20,000,000 people don't know what is the meaning of life?!! Interesting!!

Wait~ To be honest, I've no clue as well. Yes, it's right. You could reach all your personal goals, becoming a raving success by the world's standard. But it doesn't mean you found your purpose of life.

I am not that kinda people who get lost in life. I enjoy my life as it's treating me very well together with all my dearest friends and beloved family. I do have difficult moments and hard times, but I've walked through with all the supports and love given generously by you. However, it's no harm to read a book which 20,000,000 people think they can find an answer out of.

Today is Day One, I read the 1st chapter, let's see how it transform me after 40 days.  I'll tell you if this is recommended.

Btw, I didn't go to church, but I believe in GOD.
